The complainant (Diana Cook) alleges that she has been sexually assaulted at a family event. She alleges that a non-biological relative had attacked her while she was sleeping, held her down once she awoke, then raped her.
During the assault, she believes she scratched the offender.

Scenario:
At 0230 hours on Sunday 8th January 2023, neighbors called the Police to a disturbance at 53 Arthur St, Redlands.
The first responders found the house quiet at 0330. There was no response to their knocking, and they entered through an unlocked door at the rear of the property.
They observed four males asleep or unconscious in the lounge area and one of the bedrooms. None of the males appeared injured.
There were signs of drug use and heavy drinking.
There was significant staining (what appeared to be blood) in the kitchen.
The kitchen was sealed off and the four males taken to hospital by ambulance. None of the males were fit to be interviewed at that time.
Crime scene examiners responded at 0600. The staining was confirmed to be human blood.
The scene was recorded for subsequent analysis by a Bloodstain Pattern Analyst to assist in the determination of the sequence of events.
In subsequent interviews all four of the males denied any knowledge of how the blood came to be deposited in the kitchen.
DNA Profiling results are pending.

The complainant, Jason Watts, claims he was walking home at night and was sexually assaulted by two males.
Mr Watts immediately went to the hospital and medical samples were collected.
Three suspects have been subsequently identified and reference samples collected.

Scenario:
Ms Smith’s mother died when she was a child and her father has died recently. While clearing out his house, she located documents which appeared to indicate that he had been financially supporting another family.
Further investigations led Ms Smith to Ms Brown.
Ms Brown’s mother was deceased. Ms Brown never knew the identity of her biological father but knew that her mother had known his identity and she believed they were in contact up until her death..
Ms Smith and Ms Brown wish to determine if they share the same biological father.

Scenario:
Ella Barker was jogging through Harrison Park when she was attacked by a single male individual. The male was wearing grey shorts and a grey t-shirt and she was able to give a description to police.
The male used a knife during the attack and Ms Barker sustained injuries to her forearms. During the struggle she thinks she spat on him.
Using the description Ms Barker provided the local police were able to identify an individual known to them – Garry Rodgers. A search of Mr Rodgers’ flat located a pair of grey shorts and a grey t-shirt in the laundry basket.
Mr Rodgers shares the flat with two other males.

Scenario:
A break and enter occurred at 45 Park Street, Eastville at approximately 1am.
Access was gained by smashing a window beside the back door. Small electrical goods and money were stolen.
The homeowner woke and heard movement and then what appeared to be the back door closing. He looked out of the window and saw two males running away. He believed he recognised them. He described them as wearing jackets and gloves.
Police have apprehended the two suspects, Peter Wood and Brett Love. At the time they were apprehended they were not wearing jackets but gloves were located in their possession them and these gloves were seized.

Scenario:
Philippa Page was physically attacked on her way home on the 21st of January 2023. In addition to being punched and kicked she was digitally raped.
The woman reported that the offender appeared to exit from a house nearby and used a lubricant that appeared to come from a tube he brought with him.
Police searched the homes of three suspects who lived on the road where Ms. Page was attacked and found tubes of lubricant in each of the houses.
A vaginal swab was collected from the complainant within 12 hours of the alleged assault.
The tubes of lubricant were sampled by placing small amounts of lubricant on individual swabs.

Scenario:
A fire occurred at 76 Parkview Avenue, Broadleaf. It is alleged that the fire was started deliberately. The burn patterns indicated a possible deposit of an ignitable substance on the floor.
A sample of the wooden floorboards which included part of the burn trail was collected.
A burnt sample of the floor away from the seat of the fire was collected together with a sample of unburnt floor.

2023-DFEE Digital Forensics – Mobile Phone
Scenario:
Jaxon MARRYAT was arrested near a shopping centre in the Northern suburbs of Canberra at approximately 12:45pm on 4 August 2023 for possession of a small quantity of methamphetamines.
The East Australian Police Service have been tracking an organised crime group who are believed to have been importing and distributing prohibited drugs in Canberra and surrounding town centres over the last few years. Officers suspect that MARRYAT may be linked with the wider organised crime group.
While being questioned, MARRYAT stated that he was on his way to meet a “friend”, and officers stated that MARRYAT appeared anxious about the possibility of missing this meeting. MARRYAT refused to provide any details of his contact or the meeting location, and officers believe he may have been on his way to collect a much larger quantity of drugs for distribution. As well as the methamphetamines seized at the time of his arrest, MARRYAT was also in possession of a mobile phone, that had been powered down with the battery removed. The mobile phone was seized for further examination.
MARRYAT stated he’d only just bought the phone, and only turned it on long enough to set a PIN of “1234”.

Scenario:
Details of a recent sensitive investigation conducted by the Eastern Australian Police Service were published by the East Australian Herald on 11 May 2023.
Internal Investigations have discovered the desk phone of Constable Kimberly GREEN, who was involved in the investigation, made a call to a journalist at The Herald at 3:31pm (AEST, UTC+10) on 9 May 2023. Const. GREEN has since been suspended pending investigation, and various items found in GREEN’s desk have been seized.
GREEN states that she never shared or disclosed any police information, and her call to The Herald journalist was of a personal nature unrelated to the investigation.
Internal Investigations have seized multiple electronic storage devices found in GREEN’s desk, to determine if they contain any information relevant to the investigation, or an indication of additional electronic devices that should be located/examined.
Officers in the Eastern Australian Police Service occasionally use digital cameras and media devices for official purposes. Unless specific authorisation has been provided, however, these devices must remain in the office and should not be connected to anything other than the Windows desktop computers provided by the Service. GREEN was rostered on a 0800-1600 shift on 9 May 2023.

Scenario:
- Michael Arthur ROGERS (Mick ROGERS) has been identified as the victim of a homicide currently being investigated.
- The circumstances surrounding the death of ROGERS have not been released publicly.
- A letter, which describes information that is not publicly known, has been left anonymously at the door of the Western Police station.
- The person who prepared this letter, and any other person involved with it, are of interest to investigators.
- Enquiries have identified several potential persons of interest.

Scenario:
A fight broke out prior to the AFL Semi Final on Friday 15th September 2023.
During the altercation, a substance was sprayed in the direction of Peter ACORN. Peter ACORN subsequently suffered from coughing, difficulty breathing, nasal, eye and throat irritation.
Peter ACORN’s clothing was collected.
A video of the altercation captured by CCTV, shows the perpetrator who was identified as Chris FORD.
Clothing matching the clothing recorded on the video was seized from the home of Chris FORD.
