DNA for Legal Practitioners
DNA for Legal Practitioners is designed for personnel who need to understand and test DNA methodology and reporting.
It is to empower practitioners with the tools and resources to use DNA as evidence.
This course runs for three and a half days, or in a custom format.
Learning outcomes:
- Describe the structure and function of nuclear DNA and mitochondrial DNA
- Explain the laboratory process utilized to produce a DNA profile
- Discuss quality management processes applied during forensic DNA profiling
- Explain the interpretation of DNA profiles including mixed and partial profiles
Forensic Biology for Legal Practitioners
Forensic Biology is more than DNA:
- Biological evidence is any material which originates from a living organism – plant, animal or microorganism
- Biological material can be transferred between the scene, the victim, the perpetrator and the weapon
- Biological evidence can assist with the What? Where? Why? and How?
- Biological examination can be undertaken in the filed (crime scene) or in the laboratory
- Biological results may be interpretive or analytical
This workshop will introduce you to these concepts and more.
